The Madness of Greatness

The restructuring and renovation of the restaurant, bar and gaming rooms at the Aix-les-Bains Casino were conceived as a dialogue between different eras.Working in such an iconic venue inevitably meant drawing on the history of Aix-les-Bains and its golden age as a spa town. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town attracted a cosmopolitan, fashionable society, drawn by its thermal baths, landscape and distinctive art of living. The project draws on this world of elegant leisure and reinterprets it in a contemporary language.

Between past and present

The romanticism and Baroque references of the Belle Époque are reimagined in a contemporary idiom.

Lace becomes an architectural motif, incorporated into glass balustrades using laser cutting. Set against this decorative vocabulary is a resolutely contemporary symbol: the barcode.

Excess as a guiding principle

he name La Folie des Grandeurs sets the tone: everything here is deliberately oversized.

A monumental bookcase conceived as a cabinet of curiosities, a wine cellar, bespoke banquettes and floor lamps create a spectacular, immersive setting.

Pierre David’s silver-leaf paintings, created especially for the project, extend this theatrical composition.

"Creating spaces where every detail finds its natural place."

A contemporary setting

Combining historical memory, decorative references and contemporary design, La Folie des Grandeurs creates a theatrical world in which extravagance becomes a true architectural principle.
